Memorial Day Ceremony In Amherst

The Amherst Memorial Day Ceremony is Monday, May 30, 2016.  The Parade will assemble at the North Common beginning at 9 a.m. and depart at 9:30 a.m., moving down N. Pleasant St., to E. Pleasant St., turning into the War Memorial Pool Grounds for the ceremony. The Master of Ceremonies is Select Board member Doug Slaughter and the guest speaker Ray Elliott. The VFW and American Legion will lead the pledge of allegiance, the roll call of departed comrades, provide a gun salute and raising of colors. There will be performances by the Hopkins Academy Band and the Amherst Pelham Regional High School Chorale.

The last day of school is Tuesday, June 21st, and our fabulous 8th graders will formally graduate on Monday, June 20th. These hard working kids will have the opportunity to celebrate their Middle Schhol experience at two fun events: A class picnic at Mill River (Thursday, June 16th during school hours,) AND a festive social at the High School (Monday, June 20th 7 to 9 PM.)  Please help us make these events memorable by volunteering and/or contributing.  You can sign up here:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e49a4ae2faaff2-8thgrade

Online fall sports registration is in full swing. Ensure a smooth start to the fall season by registering NOW.   Current  sport physical forms should be on file with the school nurse before the first day of tryouts. Please call the nurse's office at the high school at 362-1743. Questions for middle school registrants please contact the middle school nurse at 362-1975.

Film Screening & Discussion: What’s Race Got to Do with It?


Join us on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the Woodbury Room for the next film in this ongoing film and discussion series that may education, touch your heart, and inspire you to action to help dismantle racism.  A facilitated discussion will be held after the screening.

What's Race Got to Do with It? is documentary film that goes beyond identity politics, celebratory history and interpersonal relations to consider social disparities and their impact on student success in today's post-Civil Rights world.

Pancake Breakfast for Puffer's Pond

The 25th Annual Puffer’s Pond Pancake Breakfast will take place on Saturday June 4 from 8:30 - 11:00 AM at the Mill River Recreation Area.  All you can eat pancakes and coffee $8 adults/ $6 kids. 

Please join us for multigrain pancakes made from ingredients donated by local farms. There will also be gluten-free pancakes and local sausages! And, as usual, we’ll have real maple syrup, live music, fabulous raffle prizes, and tons of community spirit!   The event is held Rain or Shine.

Trivia Night at the Jones Library

The Jones Library invites area trivia buffs to at our monthly Trivia Night, hosted by Mark “Harpo” Power, on the first Thursday of the month, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.  The next Trivia Night will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 in the Woodbury Room.  All trivia aficionados are invited to join in the fun and support the Jones Library at this last trivia night before our summer break! 
Bring friends and family as a team, or form teams on the spot, with a maximum of five per team. There will be two rounds of 15 questions each, and there will be prizes for the top teams.  Doors open at 6 pm, and the event starts promptly at 6:30 pm.  There is a suggested donation of $5-$10 per person to participate.  All proceeds benefit the Jones Library.  Refreshments will be served.

Dates/Times Changes for Co-Teaching Family Survey

Over the last year, the District has worked to implement co-teaching as an instructional model in all of our schools. We are working together with our Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) to get feedback from all families about their perception of the co-teaching instructional model. We have drafted a survey to be sent to families and welcome your input to the draft before we finalize it and send it out. If you are interested in providing input, we will be available to meet on the days and times listed below. We hope you will consider joining us for one of these times to offer your input. The survey will be sent out to families who have students in a co-teaching class by the end of May. Thank you.

ARPS Black Scholars Rising Celebration

Healthy Sleep, Healthy Kids and Teens Presentation

Healthy Sleeping, Healthy Kids & Teens will be presented on Wednesday, May 24, 2016 at 6:30 pm by Dr. Wendy Chabot. 

The presentation will be at Smith Academy Library, 33 School St., Hatfield.  Dr. Chabot, MD FAAP will discuss how crucial health sleep is to well-being and discuss steps you can take to get your kids back on the right track.
