Amherst Community Theater is back!

Welcome back, all!

It’s that time of year again! This is Susan Raker, (formerly Fort River K-2, and longtime Amherst schools mom) and I wanted to let you all know about the latest amazing audition opportunity for students in our area. Once again, Amherst Community Theater (formerly ALSCT) is creating a fabulous, large-scale musical, with lavish sets and costumes, a full live orchestra, and enthusiastic audiences to fill the 600-seat UMass Bowker Auditorium for nine performances in January. This year, we’ll be presenting Disney’s The Little Mermaid. A hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages, this timeless fable has a broad scope for a host of actors in incredible roles, and the extravagant production gives student actors an unparalleled stage experience. Actors, singers, and dancers ages 7-107 are encouraged to audition! As an added note, we at Amherst Community Theater are committed to inclusive castingIn addition, extensive Covid-19 precautions will be in place to help guard the safety of all participants.

All audition information is at www.amherstacts.org

AUDITIONS: Friday, Sept. 24th, Saturday, Sept. 25th, Sunday, Sept. 26th; Callbacks Monday, September 27th

This is an incredible experience, and I encourage you to let your students and families know about it. I've attached a flyer (in a few formats) with the info—and we’d love it if you could print it out and post it, pop it up on your social media sites, and even hand it to kids who are interested. Thanks so much! If you have questions, just email me at sbraker2@gmail.com.

Thanks again for all you do!

1st ARMS CLIMATE CHANGE CARNIVAL!

💚💚

On June 3, ARMS will hold its first ever Climate Change Carnival! We will take an interdisciplinary approach to examining climate change through hands-on workshops and guest speakers. The event will include experts from around the country, from our local area, and include youth presenters. We know Climate Change will not be solved by one solution on its own, so this day will expose students to a variety of entry points where they can take action. The Climate Change Carnival is an outgrowth of the Shelburne Farm Climate Resiliency Fellowship that ARMS teachers, Kerrita Mayfield,Tiffany Thibodeau and Irene LaRoche took part in from 2019-2020. Joining in the coordination of this year's Climate Change Carnival is Rich Ferro.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

Dear ARMS parents and guardians,

Hoping you and families are doing well! keep up the good work protecting yourselves and everything will be better!

This is a special CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

Let us know what you like to do, we all help so it becomes a very easy task, only a few hours. Many hands make light work! We just need a new team of loving, committed, thoughtful parents to continue with nice events for the kids!

Once again, my sincere thanks to my team officers who are graduating:) for their support and care for their school community during these years.  Much appreciated!.

All these ten years helping schools have been great, I enjoyed it all,  lots of work but delighted to have contributed with great events - e.g. the best ever ARMS winter social party - and building up the core ideals and actions of humanity that make our schools and community special. This is my last term as Chair and I’d like to ask our wonderful new parents to please volunteer in all PGO roles: chairs-fundraisers-communication/blog-grants-education award- activities & events.

We would like to meet outside in a social get-together, with teachers and staff too, date TBD and weather permitting. The BYOM event (bring your own mug), we provide tea, cocoa & cookies & smores! Let us know if you'd like to come. And we'd love to organize something special for our end-of-year 8th grade students too! We have suggestions but we'd like to hear from you.

Please visit our blog http://armspgo.blogspot.com/, contact us  armspgo@gmail.com

Sincere thanks to all! Warmest wishes for a Happy and Healthy Spring season!
