Jones Library - Teen Events

 Coming up this month:

*        Teen Lounge (ages 11-17): Teen Lounge is every Friday after school (3-4:45pm) while school is in session. Although Jones Library doesn't currently have a designated teen center, we turn our large meeting room into a place where teens ages 11-17 can hang out, watch a movie, and have some simple crafts/games available.  January’s theme is 1980s so we’ll be watching a lot of oldies but goodies.  – for more info on what movies we’ll be showing when, check out www.joneslibrary.org/teens

 *         Early Release Teen Lounge (ages 11-17): We also have special Teen Lounges on early release dates. These are longer with two movies, a more elaborate craft/activity, and free snacks! We’ll have Early Release Teen Lounges on Wednesday January 15, 12:30-3:30pm and Thursday January 16th, 12:30-3:30pm in the Jones Library Woodbury Room.

*        Graphic Novel Book Club (ages 9-12): Every month we choose a graphic novel, read it, and then get together to discuss it followed by making some of our own mini comics. This month we have a very special collaboration with the Eric Carle museum so it’s a two-part event. On Tuesday January 28th we’ll meet to discuss the books (two this month! Pashmina and Lowriders in Space) and then the following Thursday (1/30) we’ll meet at the Carle to explore the Now&Then exhibit which features artwork by the illustrators of our month’s books. Please pre-register for this event (and pick up a copy of the books in the Jones Library Kids’ Room (413-259-3091 or kids@joneslibrary.org)

*       Zine Club (ages 11-17): Zine club meets on the first Tuesdays of the month from 5:30-7:30pm. It is an informal space to hang out, collage, and make analog art from discarded books and magazines. All materials are provided. This month’s project is to work on personal 2020 Vision Boards that, with permission, will be collected into a collaborative JonesLibTeens booklet. Please pre-register for this event in the Jones Library Kids’ Room (413-259-3091 or teens@joneslibrary.org)

 *      Teen Advisory Board (ages 11-17): TAB meets the second Sunday of every month to help plan what cool stuff happens at Jones Library. It’s perfect for teens who want to have a say in our YA collections and programs or are looking for a fun volunteer opportunity. It also happens to looks great on job and college applications. We have snacks, crafts, and scheme about upcoming programs. The next TAB meeting is Sunday, January 12th from 2-3pm. Interested teens can pick up a TAB application in the Jones Library Kids’ Room or at their first TAB meeting.
