ARMS Theater Company Presents "Really Rosie" This Friday and Saturday

Amherst Regional Middle School Theater Company presents “Really Rosie,” a musical written by Maurice Sendak, with music by Carole King.  Performances will be on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. at ARMS Auditorium.  Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.  Students with financial need, please see their Guidance Counsellor for a free ticket.
“Really Rosie” was first performed Off-Broadway in 1980.  Prior to the production of the musical, an animated special was presented on television in 1975 featuring many of the songs by King.  The musical and the animated special are based upon Sendak’s early works, including “The Nutshell Library” books:  Alligators All AroundOne was Johnny;  Pierre; and Chicken Soup with Rice; as well as the book The Sign on Rosie’s Door.
Rosie is a young girl who lives on Avenue P in Brooklyn, NY.  Her friends in the neighborhood escape the boredom of a summer’s day by imagining themselves as producing an extravagant Hollywood movie, lending their quirks and creativity to an eccentric story line.  Although her friends are reluctant at first, and at times quarrelsome, Rosie’s imagination keeps the group of kids entertained and engaged throughout the afternoon of a hot day on a street in New York.
The student production features live piano played by Dylan Walter (7th Grade) directed by local musician John Hayman, as well as a cast and crew of students from Amherst Regional Middle school.  The production is directed by Sarah Wilson.
Because of some of the content of humor, dialogue and taunting/teasing depicted in the play, parental guidance is suggested for very young children.
