Richard Ferro's Email to Amherst Athletics Community

Hello Amherst Athletics Community!

It has been a great fall season so far for athletics at ARHS and ARMS.  We have almost 500 athletes participating in our programs this fall at the Middle and High Schools.  Our new intramural offerings at the Middle School have filled up and the student athletes are having a great time with them!

I have a few announcements to make:

Facilities
The boys locker room renovation at the High School is completed and the Phys. Ed classes and after school athletes have been utilizing the new facilities for the past three weeks.  The students and athletes are very excited and appreciative about the updates.  They have also been doing a good job so far keeping the space clean and clear of clutter so the custodians can clean in the evenings.  We have still had a couple incidents of theft from lockers that have been left unlocked or bags that have been left out in the open.  Please supply your student with a lock so they can utilize the new lockers.

The tennis court renovation at the Middle School is also complete!  The courts were painted on Monday and need to dry/cure for a couple of days before they can be used, but the intramural tennis players will be the first to use them next Monday!  We will leave at least two of the courts open for public use, but I will ask for everyone's help in keeping them in excellent shape.  We ask that they are used for Tennis only, not skate boarding, bike riding, street hockey, etc...  Please stop by and check them out when you have a chance!

I would like to thank Ron Bohonowicz, the Head of Facilities, Superintendent Maria Geryk, and the School Committee for making these two projects a priority this summer and getting them ready for our fall athletes to use!

EEE/West Nile

We are still taking precautions around EEE and West Nile since we have not had a hard frost and the temperatures have not been reliably below 55 degrees in the evenings.  This means that our after school athletic practices and competitions need to finish by 6:45 until October 1, when it will become 6:15.  I will be rescheduling any night games until we have a hard frost or the temperatures are reliably below 55.  Please be patient with the rescheduling as I do not want to do it too early in case the weather does cool down.  Check Digitalsports.com for the most up to date schedules for our teams.

Music at Athletic Contests

I wanted to take a minute to apologize to anyone who may have been at our Home Football game on 9/13 vs. East Longmeadow.  There were a couple of songs played over the loud speaker during the game that contained inappropriate language, including swear words and derogatory terms.  This does not reflect the values that our athletic programs strive to achieve.  I have included a message from the Head of the Football Boosters below about the situation.  I will be working on establishing a better system for clearing the music that will be played at our athletic contests.  Please reach out to me if you hear of this happening in the future at any of our contests.

Message from Tracy Faulstick

Hello Football Fans!!

You win some or you learn some... Our team demonstrated great effort & determination in battling back against a formidable opponent on Friday. While the score showed a loss I believe our players & fans were buoyed by the solid success of team work on and off the field!

Thank you to everyone that helped with all of the work that goes into hosting a home game. Your support & efforts are truly appreciated!!

----------> As some of you may be aware there were several music choices that were clearly not an appropriate choice for stadium play.  I take sole & full responsibility for this embarrassing mistake.  I apologize profusely for not listening the playlist more carefully and missing the offensive content of some songs.  Please be reassured and confident that this mistake has been corrected and it will not occur again.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your understanding

Tracy Faulstick

Winter Sports Registration
Registration for winter sports will begin on Monday October 14th and the winter season will begin on Monday December 2nd.  Please visit the ARHS or ARMS websites for registration information.  Please make sure to obtain an up to date sports physical for your student athletes ASAP so they do not have to sit out at the beginning of the season!

I look Forward to seeing everyone out on the fields and the courts soon!!

Go Canes!!
